Towson University to Memorialize Late President
Maravene Loeschke, the late president and beloved alumna of Towson University, will be remembered with public ceremony on Sept. 18.

More than two months after the death of its immediate past president, Towson University is memorializing her in dramatic style fitting for the alumna who received her bachelor’s degree in theater there in 1969.
Maravene Loeschke died June 25. She was 68.
A memorial service open to the public will celebrate Loeschke’s life at the SECU Arena on Friday, Sept. 18.

The memorial service will pay tribute to Loeschke’s love for the arts with performances by faculty and students.
After studying theater as an undergrad, Loeschke received a master’s in education and built a a 30-year career at the university as a professor and then dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication.

In 2002 she left Towson for Pennsylvania, becoming the provost at Wilkes University and president of Mansfield University. Then in 2012, the Parkville native returned to Towson to lead her alma mater as president.
Loeschke resigned in December 2014 to battle cancer of the adrenal gland. She died at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson on June 25 from complications related to adrenal cancer, according to Towson News.
Doors to the memorial service at the SECU Arena will open at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. The program will start at 4 p.m. A reception will follow. More information about parking and logistics is here.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may go to the Towson University Foundation.
