Towson University Stops Face-To-Face Courses For Nearly 4 Weeks

Classes will be held according to a "distance-learning format" until April 6, according to Towson University officials.

TOWSON, MD — After canceling classes for the rest of the week, Towson University provided guidance around how long remote learning will last and what the status of on-campus events will be

Spring break at Towson University runs from Saturday, March 14, to Sunday, March 22.

"Students should not return to campus immediately following spring break," officials said.

Residence halls that are closed for spring break will not reopen to students until April 4. Housing and Residence Life personnel will update residential students about any changes in status, officials said.

Until April 6, courses will shift into what Towson officials called a "distance-learning format."

To give students time to prepare for distance learning, Towson University canceled classes Wednesday through the end of the week.

"We recognize that these are extraordinary times that require exceptional measures to deal with a health risk that affects us all," according to a statement issued Wednesday by Towson University.

"This continues to be a fluid and rapidly evolving situation. The university may take alternative action as appropriate," the statement said. "The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our primary concern."

  • Face-to-face classes resume Monday, April 6.
  • University-sponsored events at Towson are suspended through Saturday, April 4.

Officials announced the plan Wednesday, which was also the day the number of confirmed cases of those with the novel coronavirus rose to 12 in Maryland, including one in Baltimore County.
