West Towson Students Deliver Kindness to Neighbors
Students at West Towson Elementary School made gifts over winter break for the students at a special needs school nearby.
TOWSON, MD — Ridge Ruxton School and West Towson Elementary are both on a campus along Charles Street, but the two student populations are very different.
Ridge Ruxton educates 119 students with disabilities ages 3 to 21. West Towson has more than 500 students in an elementary school setting.
Recently Towson University intern Rachel Love was challenged to make a difference in the school community. She helped create more opportunities for West Towson students to get to know students at Ridge Ruxton.

While the two schools have come together for World Peace Day and other special events and assemblies, with the assistance of Love, West Towson students visited Ridge Ruxton monthly to help with crafts, computer and story time activities.
When students at West Towson were encouraged to participate in extracurricular kindness projects in the community, some looked to their new friends at Ridge Ruxton.

Over the winter break, West Towson sisters Mia and Sabine worked on friendship bracelets and wreaths for those at Ridge Ruxton School. Recently, they delivered the items to their new friends.
“It touched my heart to see this happen,” West Towson teacher Susan Kerrigan said. "...I am so grateful to [Ridge Ruxton teacher Alisa Rogers] for her help throughout this project."
