Zumbathon Raises Money for American Heart Association

Local residents danced their hearts healthy.

Hearts were pumping in Towson Saturday as more than 30 local residents participated in a Party Hearty Zumbathon to prevent heart disease and raise money for the American Heart Association.

The Zumba class, held at the Confetti's Event Center, was hosted by Natalie Meconi, a personal trainer and certified Zumba instructor. It was an intense two-hour, latin-inspired, dance workout.

“[The event] raised over $400, and everyone got a great workout,” Meconi said.

Zumba gets people dancing and excercising, all while laughing and having fun. Their motto, Ditch the workout, Join the party, reiterates the heart-healthy fun this class provides. And more importantly, it’s for all skill levels. Instructors want participants to just keep moving.

Attendees at this Zumbathon were smiling, dancing, and having fun.

Lauren Fagan, 45, commented that she “loved the class, I wish there were more Zumbathons.” Other attendees Tracy Landsman, 26, and Tammie Wingrove, 26, mentioned that they really enjoyed having a longer class, compared to the normal 1-hour class time.

Caille Wick of Baltimore summed up the event when she said, “It feels good to be heart healthy.”
