URGENT NEED FOR SHELTER VOLUNTEERS!

Prince George’s County Animal Services is over capacity, and we need YOUR help more than ever!
Volunteers are the heartbeat of our shelter—they walk and train dogs, socialize cats, help with feeding and cleaning, support adoptions at offsite events, and so much more. Without enough volunteers, our animals miss out on the enrichment, love, and exercise they desperately need while waiting for their forever homes.

We have upcoming orientations:
Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10 AM

Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 5 PM
Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10 AM
Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 5 PM
Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10 AM

Teens (14–17 years old) can complete required school service hours (non-animal handling tasks).
Adults (18+) can work hands-on with animals after orientation and a facility tour.
Location: Prince George’s County Animal Services
3750 Brown Station Road, Upper Marlboro, MD
Commitments can be as little as 4 hours per quarter—but they make a HUGE difference for our animals!
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the time! Please step up and help us give every animal the love and care they deserve while they wait for homes.

"What’s it like to volunteer at PGASD?
Honestly… it can be whatever you make it.

Want to be hands on with animals? You can do that.
Prefer to help behind the scenes? There’s a place for you too.

You might find yourself walking dogs, socializing cats, bunnies, and other small critters, folding towels, preparing enrichment, taking photos, or helping animals shine so they can be seen and adopted.
Some days we dress up for fun and to keep things light.
Some days we’re at adoption events, giving tours, or helping with meet and greets.
Sometimes we throw parties just for the animals.
And most days you leave with a full cup from all the snuggles, cuddles, and quiet moments that stay with you.
It’s not always easy.
And yes, you will fall in love. Over and over again.
For those who say, “I could never… I’d want to take them all home.”
You might feel that way at first. But then something shifts.
You realize there are so many animals who need you, and you find new ways to love them. You show up for them, advocate for them, and help them find their way to a home of their own. And that… is everything.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, this is your moment to step in and be part of something meaningful.

Volunteer Orientation is happening Saturday, April 18, and it’s the perfect first step."
