Blog: Comcast Cable (Xfinity) Wrongs Carroll County Customers Again

Comcast taking advantage of people through a regulated monopoly agreement with Carroll County.

Once again, Comcast Cable is screwing its customers. The last grab for your hard earned dollars is through an "HD technology fee", to tack onto any house holds bill that has an HD package and they are also charging for the digital transport adapters now.

This would be fair if Carroll County did not regulate Comcast and its constituents under a regulated monopoly. Comcast is the only cable provider available to all households within the Carroll County boarders and therefore there is no competition for cable tv or internet. Some households can get a satellite receiver and some can get a digital subscriber line (DSL) from the phone company, but not all.

Comcasts new attempt to screw people is to add nonsensical fees to customers bills, in hopes that they will just absorb the higher fees.

The solution to this is to allow competition, the same way that the rest of our economy works, and to allow home owners the ability to purchase their own hardware. You cannot purchase a DTA and you cannot purchase an HD box or a DVR. You can purchase a TIVO, but then Comcast charges you for a network card and also charges you the technology fee to have your TIVO (about $12).
