Blog: STORM of Hope--Traveling Drama Ministry
Local teen drama team promotes hope to other teens and young adults and hosts a special free event this Friday, May 18th at Westminster Baptist Church. Doors open at 6 with live music.
When looking at the statistics regarding American teenagers, the numbers would suggest there is little hope for our nations young people. More than 90% of all eating disorders are teens. Less than 25% of teens live in a traditional nuclear family environment. 1 in 5 teen girls (1 in 7 teen boys) self-injure. Every 2 hours a teen is lost to suicide.
It is often assumed that if we do our best to raise our children morally, then they can avoid such scary circumstances as these numbers indicate. However, that isn't the case. Even in Christian families, nearly 80% of those teens raised in church-going homes will end up leaving their faith by their second year of college & engaging in life-altering behaviors such as those listed above.
So why do these teens loose their faith & subsequently loose hope? Could it be that their faith is not relevant to the world around them and that their anchor in Jesus Christ for their salvation is not secure in their hearts & minds? Perhaps so, but there is still yet hope for our lost teens.

There is a group of teens in Carroll County that’s dedicated to living passionate lives for Christ and to sharing the truth of their hope in Him with other teens in the area to make a difference that lasts and to offer hope & a fresh start for those who struggle with the ills that plague their generation.
This team of teens comprises a traveling drama ministry team called FireStorm. FireStorm travels to churches, youth groups, schools, and special events to put their faith in action on stage. Their pieces include many of the issues today’s young people contend with such as body image, drinking, drugs, depression, and suicide, but each piece presents the hope that’s found in Jesus Christ and the true freedom in trusting Him completely.

Each team member agrees to live their life dedicated to pursuing Christ. The key Scripture verse for them is Revelation 3:15-16, which encourages them to live their lives on fire for God. Each team member is trained in evangelism according to the Dare 2 Share ministries guidelines so they can share their personal testimony of salvation and explain the Gospel of Christ.
The range of drama pieces in FireStorm’s repertoire include improv skits, comedies, and musical interpretations set to contemporary music from such artists as Chevelle, Casting Crowns, Todd Agnew, Lifehouse, Barlow Girl, and more. Some pieces have intricately choreographed fight scenes that include running kicks to the face and have some actors hurling through the air. This year, the team is incorporating an entirely new piece that was specially written just for them. WhiteStone Motion Pictures of Atlanta, GA has granted FireStorm sole proprietary rights to use the song entitled Awake O Sleeper for this piece.
Each spring FireStorm hosts a free event called STORM. This event is a high-energy night geared directly to teens & college-age students. There is live music, skits, food, videos, games, prizes, and lots & lots of candy! The dramas will bring the audience to tears of laughter & deep emotion, as well as gasping for breath at each surprise on stage.
STORM stands for Sending Them Out to Reach Many and is intended for guests to invite others to come along with them. It is open to all audiences, Christian & non-Christian alike. It’s a place where everyone is welcome & where hope is made alive and available to all.
STORM will be held May 18th at Westminster Baptist Church, located at 354 Crest Lane in Westminster. Doors open at 6 pm with live music. It’s a night that offers life changing hope, mercy, and grace, & a place where faith reaches past pain & struggling to offer real love.
