Salvation Army supports Carroll County during good times, and bad
"When the going gets tough, the tough get going." But it may not be easy...especially true when the tough going means loss of a job, loss of income, and fear of loss of shelter.
In times like these, there is help. In Carroll County, for example, among other community resources is the Salvation Army. Founded in 1865 and operating in Carroll County since 1993, the Salvation Army Greater Baltimore Area Command offers the Carroll County Family Service Center, which specializes in providing crisis intervention services for county residents in need.
National Salvation Army Week is May 14-20, 2012 and in Carroll County several events are planned, including a food drive for non-perishable items. Also scheduled is the "Larry Sheets' Players Family Fun Night," on Friday, May 11, from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. This event includes games and activities for children and families, along with a silent auction for sports memorabilia and door prizes. The event is open to the public and will support the Salvation Army's Send a Kid to Camp effort.
From October 2011 through March 2012, the Salvation Army provided nearly 300 food orders for county residents, assisted in 29 rent/eviction cases, helped more than 130 residents keep their utilities, and served more than 2,600 unduplicated county residents. And just last month, during a food give away event, 190 cases -- enough to serve more than 600 people -- were distributed.
