Book in a Day Program--Westminster High School
Kwame Alexander, a renowned poet, and his team will visit on Tuesday, Nov. 15, to work with 30 students in the publication process of their selected writings. The students will go through the process from beginning to end from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Alexander will return in a couple of weeks with a final copy for distribution and to celebrate this amazing accomplishment of the student writers. English teacher Shawn Simms and media specialist Jean Pyzik were awarded a grant from the CCPS Education Foundation to host this Book in a Day Program. For more information, go to www.bookinaday.org.

Operation Christmas Cards--Manchester Elementary School

Students and staff at Manchester Elementary School are participating in Operation Christmas Cards (“Loving our troops one card at a time”) through Thursday, Nov. 17.
Madison Gleespen, a third grade student at Manchester, decided that every service member should have mail showing kind words of appreciation, support, and love, especially at Christmas. She has asked students and staff members to decorate cards for the military men and women to reflect holiday spirit. Cards of all faiths are welcome. Cards are due Nov. 17.
Craft Show--Winters Mill High School
The Future Educators of America at will sponsor a craft show on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria. Crafts created by the friends and families of the Carroll County Public Schools community will be featured. Refreshments will be available for purchase (breakfast items until 11 a.m. and lunch after 11 a.m.). Checks or cash will be accepted. Proceeds from reservations and food sales will go the Falcons Helping Falcons Fund. Call Kathy Hill, Winters Mill High School, 410-386-1500.
Longaberger Basket Bingo--East Middle School
will hold a Longaberger Basket Bingo on Friday, Dec. 2, at the Pleasant Valley Fire Hall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and games will start at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. There will be 20 regular games, 2 basket/bag specials, 2 basket/bag raffles with a cash bonus, and a 50/50 drawing. All baskets, bags, and pottery will be filled. Food and refreshments will be provided by the Pleasant Valley Auxiliary.
There also will be a silent sports auction and door prizes. A total of 350 tickets will be available. Tickets may be purchased at the school.
