The Melaya Leff is a playful, folkloric dance from Alexandria, Egypt. The “melaya” is a large, rectangular scarf used by the woman in this fun, flirtatious dance.
Atef Hassan started dancing in his hometown of Alexandria, Egypt at the age of 13 as a folkloric dancer. He has performed his strong, graceful style in France, Finland, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Jordan, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Egypt. He started teaching folkloric dance and belly dance in 2000. He specializes in Egyptian folkloric dance and has tutored some of the top professionals in the Baltimore/DC area.
