"Your Future and Aging"

The Center for the Study of Aging at McDaniel College will hold its fourth annual “Your Future
and Aging” events 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 18 on campus and at St. Johns Catholic Church,
Westminster.

The events are free and open to the public. For information, contact Larry Hoffman at 410-857-
2512.

The events begin with the workshop, “The Business of Aging: Identifying and Marketing to
the Needs and Wants of Older Adults,” featuring national speaker Steven Joiner, 12:30- 3 p.m.
April 18 at The Portico, St. Johns Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, Md. Joiner
will lead a discussion on the practicalities of targeting the 50-plus market: Who are they? What
do they want? How do we target them? How do we design for them? The workshop is free, but
space is limited. For reservations, contact Larry Hoffman at 410-857-2512 or RSVP online at
www.mcdaniel.edu/csa .

Joiner is a speaker, writer, teacher, and project manager with experience stretching from the
American East Coast to Asia, according to his website, “21st Century Worklife: Reclaim your
power, potential and peace of mind.” He has more than 15 years experience in coaching,
organization development, recruiting and writing about career and social issues.

“Over the past several years, a series of economic, social, political and technological earthquakes
have reshaped everything from Wall St. to Main St., right down to the very ways that we live and
work,” Joiner writes on his website. “As the cracks in the old paradigm widen, space is opening
up to usher in the you that can flourish in the rapidly changing work-life landscape by increasing
your ability to share your unique talents and vision with the world.”

The events continue on campus at 3:30-4:30 p.m. with a picnic on Memorial Plaza, known to
students as Red Square, and various activities in The Forum on the lower level of Decker Student
Center. Members of community employed in an age-related career will be available to discuss
their positions with students. Careers represented include those related to psychology, exercise
science, social work, communication, business and the sciences. Also display tables will be
hosted by local organizations and senior service agencies with volunteer opportunities as well as
McDaniel’s Career Services department and Gerontology Club.

National speaker Steven Joiner will present a talk at 5:30 p.m. about the need for an age-
educated workforce and highlighting the job outlook in areas that involve working with older
adults. McDaniel’s undergraduate and graduate students in Gerontology will be honored.
