The Evolution of Wedding Gowns

The bridal dresses are paid so much attention to, they can make or break the feel of the event

For a lot of reasons, wedding days are really special. It brings about a union and the best part is the number of people it brings together into a venue. Marriages could be between people of different cultures or even between people from different parts of the world. This signifies a lot, this signifies the growth of the human race, where humans consider themselves equal to one another. This also leads to a generation whereby the children are aware of multiple cultures and associate with both cultures healthily.

Away from that, we know that one of the main focuses of every wedding is the bridal dress. The bridal dresses are paid so much attention to, they can make or break the feel of the event. For instance, when we consider Pakistani bridal dresses, we can see the intricate details that goes into the designing and eventual sewing of the timeless bridal dresses.

Prior to the popularization of the white bridal dress or the wedding gown, the outfits that women wear to their marriages as brides solely depended on the culture religion and most of the time personal preference. The white bridal dress became so popular after Queen Victoria wore t at her wedding. Contrary to popular beliefs, the originator of this trend (Queen Victoria) didn’t wear the white dress because she was chaste or holy or a virgin, she wore it simply because she greatly liked the colour, white. Since her wedding in 1984, the white bridal dress has become a norm and not wearing it is was greatly frowned upon, until recently where a more diverse and welcoming fashion market has taken centre stage. But that wasn’t the first instance of a white dress being worn by a bride. The very first was in 1406, when Philippa of England wore a white wedding gown. It happened again in 1559 when Mary, Queen of Scots wore a white wedding gown to wed her first husband. Even though white was seen as a colour of mourning among French queens, she wore it simply because she loved the colour.

It is also important that we acknowledge the very active roles played by different cultures in the design and making of bridal dresses. As different cultures have their different patterns such as the Eastern varies from the west the western varies from the native American, the middle Eastern and so on.
