Point Breeze Credit Union Announces Finalists for Carroll County Community Care Challenge

Carroll County residents will pitch ideas to Point Breeze for chance to win $10K

In celebration of Point Breeze Credit Union’s new office in Westminster, Md., Point Breeze has selected five finalists to compete in its Carroll County Community Care Challenge pitch event on Thursday, June 8, 2017.

The five finalists below, who all reside in Carroll County, will present their ideas for enhancing the community to a panel of four judges at the live pitch event. Following the event, Point Breeze will award $10,000 in funding to one grand prize winner.

  • Boys & Girls Club of Westminster is renovating a 21,000 square-foot facility to increase the number of children that it serves from 110 to 600 per day. The new building will include a gymnasium, teen center, technology hub, art studio and even a radio station where kids can DJ their own music.
  • Carroll Hospital Foundation is hosting its eighth annual health expo this fall, which will offer residents free health advice, screenings and education. Services that will be offered during the expo include blood pressure, body fat, osteoporosis, diabetes, and vision screenings.
  • Kiwanis Club of Westminster will host a one-day seminar, including hands-on projects, to teach over 280 Carroll County high school students leadership skills and the self-esteem required of leaders.
  • Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory, Inc. (MAGIC) will develop its Smart Home pilot project, which will provide improvements to the quality of life for Carroll County adults with intellectual disabilities. Innovative, in-home healthcare monitoring, analysis, and alert services will benefit residents in two residential homes.
  • Ride with Pride, which was nominated as a finalist by the community through Point Breeze’s fan favorite Facebook contest, is a non-profit initiative created by two McDaniel College students to provide much needed transportation for those with disabilities in Carroll County.

The finalists will participate at the pitch event held at Point Breeze’s Westminster office from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017.
