Westminster Baseball Team Brings Home State Title

Westminster beat Severna Park 8-7 in the Class 4A state championship game at Ripken Stadium Friday.

Westminster's baseball team hung on to an early lead yesterday to win the state championship title. What made the win even sweeter is the fact that it is the last game for Coach Bryan Harman.

The Owls scored six runs in the first inning and carried a 7-0 lead until Severna Park mounted a comeback, scoring five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to tie the game. Westminster scored one more run in the bottom of the 6th and held onto the 8-7 lead to win the game, according to an article in the Washington Post

Westminster, 23-0 for the season, is the first team in the county to earn the state title following an undefeated season. The Owls are just the 11th undefeated champion in the 35-year history of the MPSSAA state tournament, according to an article in the Carroll County Times
