WHS Alum Publishes Second Crime Novel With Wheelchair-Bound Detective

Luke H. Davis' murder mystery sequel brings St. Louis activity, locales, and religious turmoil to life in captivating fashion.

An alumnus of Westminster High School has published his second crime fiction novel within the span of two years.

Luke H. Davis, a 1988 graduate of Westminster High, has recently published The Broken Cross, the second in his Cameron Ballack Mystery series, following his debut novel Litany of Secrets (2013). Both titles are available through Dunrobin Publishing.

The Broken Cross takes place against the backdrop of legal proceedings against the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Moments after a heartfelt but strange confession, a brilliant attorney is murdered in a quiet corner of the historic Cathedral Basilica, days after winning a prominent case for the archdiocese. Within hours, Cameron Ballack is appointed the Special Investigative Division team’s lead detective. The wheelchair-bound Ballack heads up a difficult case while trying to mesh with new colleagues and delegate emerging responsibilities. As they explore the mounting clues, Ballack becomes more aware of an unholy reign of illicit behavior that has triggered one killing after another. Connecting horrors of the past with the characters before him, Ballack gambles everything in a union of logic and intuition to ensnare the murderer. But as the killer’s intents reach a critical mass, Ballack and his team might not be able to stop the evil crusade.
