Kohl’s Associates Give Back, Go Green at Wheaton’s Brookside Gardens

In celebration of National Volunteer Week and Earth Day, about 15 associate volunteers from Washington D.C.-area Kohl’s Department Stores will be gathering on Sunday, April 21 at the Brookside Gardens in Wheaton to help out by ridding the garden of weeds, planting new flowers, landscaping and performing overall grounds beautification.

In addition, Kohl’s is providing the Montgomery Parks Foundation with approximately $3,000 in corporate grants to assist in the foundation’s mission of sharing the value and benefits of the park system to Montgomery County citizens and policymakers.

This volunteer effort and contribution is part of Kohl’s fourth annual National Go Green Event (NGG), where thousands of its associates volunteer in their local communities through the company’s volunteer program, Associates in Action. Throughout the month of April, Kohl’s volunteers are supporting youth-serving nonprofit organizations by participating in an environmentally-based activity.

As with it is with the Montgomery Parks Foundation, Kohl’s is also donating corporate grants to each local organization. Through this initiative, Kohl’s will donate $2 million in grants to nonprofits nationwide for the fourth year in a row.

“Kohl’s National Go Green Event brings together our commitment to giving back and to environmental responsibility in a way that is meaningful for our associates and our communities,” said John Worthington, Kohl’s chief administrative officer. “We are proud of our associates’ efforts to make a positive impact where they live and work and once again look forward to each and every one of our more than 1,100 locations participating as they did last year.”
