On Monday, May13, 2013, from 7:00-9:30 pm, GreenWheaton will host their second annual
environmental film showing at the Brookside Gardens Visitors Center at 1800
Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton, MD, 20902.
This year we will present “Symphony of the Soil” (www.symphonyofthesoil.com) along with a panel discussion including soil
scientist and sustainability expert Annita Seckinger as well as Peter Ensign,
architect and Executive Director of DCGreenWorks (www.dcgreenworks.org). The movie
will highlight how both healthy soil and soil ecosystems are necessary for food
and life in addition to filtering and cleaning the run-off from our properties
and roads. The panel and film will both
inspire and stimulate thinking on some of the threats to the hidden life under
our feet and what individuals, gardeners, and businesses can do on their own
properties to preserve, protect and enhance the living ecosystem that nourishes
us.
This program is
made possible through a $15,000 grant from the Montgomery County Department of
Economic Development. The grant supports
GreenWheaton’s mission to promote sustainability and a healthy environment in the
Wheaton community through programming and projects. This event is free but donations are
welcome. Popcorn and beverages will be
available.
Volunteers are
needed to help with food sales, directing attendees, and clean up. For more information on volunteering, please
contact GreenWheaton at info@greenwheaton.org
or 301-946-5091.
