• Montgomery County completes pedestrian safety project in Wheaton (wtop.com) — New traffic-calming upgrades along McComas Avenue are now in place to make walking and biking safer for Wheaton residents, especially students near Stephen Knolls Elementary. County leaders say this first phase of the McComas Avenue Greenway adds sidewalks, clearer crosswalks, and markings that slow drivers, with future phases planned to better connect neighborhood streets to downtown Wheaton.
   

• $210K lottery ticket sold at Maryland convenience store tops week of big wins (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A Racetrax ticket worth more than $10,000 was sold in Wheaton, putting a sizable unclaimed prize in play for one local lottery player. It's part of a big week for Maryland Lottery winners, including a $210,745 FAST PLAY jackpot in West Friendship and more than $30 million in prizes statewide.
   

• Friendship Heights residents are calling on planners to protect the urban area's green spaces (wtop.com) — Montgomery County planners recently held one of two public hearings at their Wheaton headquarters on an updated sector plan for Friendship Heights, drawing more than 40 speakers. Residents are split between concerns over taller buildings and hopes for more housing and economic activity, as the county revisits a master plan last updated in 1998.
