1 Teen Dead, 5 More Injured In Cape Cod Car Crash

Seven passengers were in the vehicle when it struck a tree, police announced on Tuesday. The teenagers were from Mashpee and Falmouth.

MASHPEE, MA — A single car crash left a Cape Cod teenager dead and five others injured early Tuesday morning, police and fire officials said.

Around 2 a.m., police responded to the crash in the area of Swain Circle on Carleton Drive, police said. When they arrived they found a heavily damaged Toyota Rav-4 that had struck a tree.

Six passengers of the Toyota Rav-4 were transported to area hospitals, two of which suffered what appear to be "life-threatening injuries," Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline said. One of the passengers, a 17-year-old from Mashpee, died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the cause of the crash, but Carline said the car was found in the road's northbound lane and appeared to have been traveling in that direction.

He said while traveling north it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking the tree just south of Swain Circle.
