10-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Struck By Car In Worcester County

Police have identified the driver, but it's not yet clear whether they have been charged.

WEBSTER, MA — A child was killed after being struck by a car in Central Massachusetts over the weekend.

On Apr. 11 at about 12:49 p.m., the South Worcester County Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, according to police. Webster Police, Webster Fire and Webster EMS responded to the scene.

Before first responders arrived, a passerby used an AED and began CPR on the child, who was unresponsive at the time. Responders then took over life-saving efforts, police said.

The girl, identified as Marleigh Guevara, was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries, police said.

The vehicle was driven by 35-year-old Sherry Mae Plitouke of Southbridge, police said. It's not yet clear if the driver has been charged.

The crash is being investigated by the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction Unit, the Webster Police Department and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

Guevara’s family is planning a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. at 535 School St. in Webster.

"When a community tragically loses a child, it loses a piece of its soul. Our hearts go out to Marleigh’s family and friends as they endure this terrible loss," the Webster Police Department shared in a statement.

Police said there is no further information at this time.
