4 MA Zip Codes Among 100 Most Expensive In US
A new study from PropertyShark ranked home prices in four Eastern Massachusetts neighborhoods as among the priciest addresses in the U.S.

MASSACHUSETTS — A new survey of the most expensive ZIP codes across the country found four Massachusetts neighborhoods among the 100 priciest places to buy a home in the United States.
Boston ZIP code 02199 — which includes the Back Bay neighborhood — is the costliest area to buy a home in the state at $2.8 million, according to PropertyShark. That ranks as the 31st most expensive ZIP code in the country.
Weston ZIP code 02493 came in at No. 70 on the list, Newton's Waban village 02468 was No. 71 and Wellesley Hills 02481 was ranked No. 84.

California claimed 79 of the most expensive ZIP codes in the country — the most of any state. New
York had the second most with 22 ZIP codes making the list.
PropertyShark said that the values were calculated with the median sale price based on closed home sales in 2023, not the asking price. PropertyShark said that it considers this methodology to provide the most accurate picture of actual market dynamics.

Boston's Back Bay neighborhood came in at a median sale price of $2.8 million. While still quite pricey, the area has dropped in relation to the other hottest ZIP codes in the country. The 02199 fell to No. 31 after being ranked No. 27 last year and in the top 10 two years ago.
Weston came in at a median sale price of $2.1 million.
The Waban village of Newton came in at a median sale price of $2.097 million.
Wellesley Hills came in at a median sale price of $1,990,000 million.
After the Federal Reserve raised interest rates 10 times in 2022 and 2023 to combat inflation and slow the economy, price growth has slowed or receded over recent years.
Most of the 100 most expensive U.S. zip codes saw price increases in 2022. But 2023 witnessed a general decline in median sale prices.
Seventy of the 122 zip codes within the top 100 (due to 18 ties) experienced price drops, as compared to only 15 drops in the previous year.
