Severe Storm Threat Builds Amid Oppressive Heat: See Latest MA Forecast

As the heat index nears 100 degrees, there is a chance for severe storms across Massachusetts through Friday.

| Updated

A soupy stretch of tropical, hazy, hot and humid air will bring with it the chance for severe thunderstorms across Massachusetts to end the work week.

The dewpoints will steadily rise starting Wednesday through Friday, with the chance of strong storms each day before the sticky air departs for what should be a pleasant summer-like weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs will reach near 90 degrees with a southwest wind on Wednesday before the first chance for storms arrives overnight.

The best chance for severe storms will be Thursday as the most oppressive air moves over the region. Highs will be near 90 degrees, with dewpoints near 70, causing the heat index to threaten 100 degrees.

The NWS said the best chance for severe storms is in the afternoon before 7 p.m. but showers may linger in the evening.

We will do it all over again on Friday with another hot and humid day. Showers are possible in the afternoon with a chance of more severe storms very late in the day.

Rain could linger into early Saturday before the air mass dries out for what should be a very warm and more comfortable weekend.
