Freeze Threat Hits MA Amid Dry, Sunny, Mostly Mild Stretch Through Halloween: See Latest Forecast

The coldest temperatures of the season are in store for some on one night this week, but rain stays away through the weekend.

The dry stretch will hit double digits early this week with no significant rain in the forecast through the end of the month, according to the National Weather Service. (Scott Souza/Patch)

One sharply colder night will dot what will almost surely be the longest dry stretch of 2026 across Massachusetts as temperatures rebound from the low 20s early one midweek morning back into the 70s later in the week.

That sets the stage for a mild trick-or-treating night on Halloween, with highs in the 60s during the day and sticking in the 50s through the early evening hours.

The dry stretch will hit double digits early this week with no significant rain in the forecast through the end of the month, according to the National Weather Service.

While many areas outside of Boston have already experienced their first freeze of the season — negating official freeze warnings from the NWS — those who have yet to bring in the plants will want to do so Tuesday night with a calm, dry night dropping temperatures into the 20s.

Other than that, however, it will be a mostly above-normal temperature week with highs near 70 degrees on Monday before they dip down into the 50s for a more seasonable Tuesday.

The frigid start to Wednesday will moderate back into the 50s and low 60s before another big warm-up to end the week.

High temperatures should be back into the 60s on Thursday and possibly well into the 70s on Friday.

Halloween weekend is looking mild and bright, with highs in the 60s both days and lows sticking in the 40s overnight.

The next legitimate threat for rain comes early next week.

The warm stretch could be the start of a trend through the end of fall and into the heart of winter, with the National Weather Service predicting a 50 to 60 percent chance of above-normal temperatures in its latest long-range forecast.
