Deadly Crash In Worcester County Prompts State Police Investigation

Crews responded to a fatal crash on Route 20 eastbound on Tuesday morning.

CHARLTON, MA — A deadly crash in Worcester County on Tuesday has prompted a police investigation.

Crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 20 eastbound in Charlton near the Sturbridge town line on Tuesday at approximately 7:45 a.m. The crash was confirmed to be fatal by the Worcester County District Attorney's office.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of a second vehicle was taken by LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Hospital, with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Route 20 eastbound was closed due to traffic at around 10:30 a.m. as Charlton Police and Fire and Massachusetts State Police responded.

The Worcester County DA said Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to its office and the Charlton police are investigating the crash.
