90 Job Cuts Coming To Major Fulfillment Center In Worcester

A spokesperson for Walmart told Patch that it plans to relocate its operations from its Worcester facility to other locations nationwide.

WORCESTER, MA — Walmart is laying off dozens of employees at a fulfillment center in Central Massachusetts

The Sam’s Club Fulfillment Center owned and operated by Walmart in Worcester is expected to close, a company spokesperson wrote in a statement to Patch. The company also has plans to lay off 90 employees by May 29, 2026, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the state earlier this week.

A spokesperson for Walmart told Patch that it plans to relocate its operations from its Worcester facility to other locations nationwide.

"We’re continuously evolving our fulfillment network to better serve our customers and members as their needs change," said a spokesperson for the company. "As part of this, we’re relocating operations from our Worcester, Massachusetts facility at 1 Tobias Boland Way to other locations within our network."

The company said laid off employees who are interested will have the opportunity to transfer to nearby facilities or other Walmart locations nationwide. Walmart also said associates who move to select facilities could be eligible for a $7,500 transfer bonus, relocation assistance, and on-the-job training.

“We’re grateful for everything our associates do every day, and we’re committed to working one-on-one with each person to find the best path forward so they can remain part of the Walmart family," a spokesperson wrote.

The center's location on Tobias Boland Way was the former home of a Sam's Club store. Patch reported the store was among 63 Sam's Club stores that closed in the U.S. in 2018.
