Here's Where MA Cities Rank On Best Places To Raise A Family

MASSACHUSETTS — While Massachusetts was ranked the best state to raise a family in earlier this year, two of its cities didn't fare as well.

A new analysis from personal finance website WalletHub ranked 182 cities around the country on how friendly they are for families. Boston came in at 79, and Worcester ranked 106.

Each city was evaluated in categories like education and child care, affordability, family fun, and health and safety. The study examined "45 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics..."

The average family moves 11.7 times in a lifetime. This may be due to new opportunities like a new job, or due to instability such as foreclosure.

“Finding the best place to raise a family is difficult, between balancing an affordable cost of living with good educational opportunities, safety and enough recreation to keep kids entertained," WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo said.

Both Boston and Worcester ranked low in terms of socioeconomics, 150 and 152, respectively. Worcester was also toward the bottom in family fun, ranking 156.

2. Overland Park, Kansas
3. Plano, Texas
4. Irvine, California
5. South Burlington, Vermont
6. Seattle
7. Boise
8. Gilbert, Arizona
9. Bismarck, North Dakota
10. San Diego
