MA Children Discover Human Remains At Summer Camp

GREENFIELD, MA — A group of children attending summer camp near Greenfield made a shocking discovery Wednesday when they stumbled upon human skeletal remains on an island in the Connecticut River, officials said Monday.

The remains were found near the Greenfield and Montague line, Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan said in a news release.

The children found the remains in the afternoon and told a chaperone, who then contacted police, according to officials.

"Investigators collected what they could that day," the district attorney's office said. "The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was on the scene the following day to ensure recovery of all remains."

The Connecticut River flows 410 miles from the Quebec-New Hampshire border to Long Island Sound at Old Lyme, Connecticut, according to the Connecticut River Conservancy.
