MA School District Puts Armed Officers In Buildings: Report
The decision comes amid a wave of heightened security measures in schools following the deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
WESTPORT, MA — In the wake of the school shooting in Texas that left 21 people dead, one Massachusetts school district is arming school officers to ensure the safety of its more than 900 students.
Parents are on board with the plan to place an armed police officer in every building, Thomas Aubin, superintendent of Westport Community Schools, told WJAR-TV. It was an idea he had for a while, but the May 24 shooting in Uvalde prompted him to take action.
"The idea of explaining to a parent that you didn't do your due diligence is something that's completely unbearable to me," Aubin told the network.

Officers will be in Westport schools through June, but Aubin said he hopes to bring the program back next year.
