MA Voters Approve 'Millionaire's Tax' Ballot Question
Question 1 passed with a narrow 3-point margin, according to vote counts.
MASSACHUSETTS — Whether by donations or political predilections, money helped get Massachusetts ballot Question 1 over the line.
The Associated Press Wednesday afternoon called the so-called "millionaire's tax" ballot question for the "yes" side, which means Massachusetts will amend the state constitution to add a 4 percent tax on income in excess of $1 million.
The measure passed narrowly, with 1,187,521 votes in favor and 1,099,820 against with 92 percent of votes counted as of 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to the AP.

Revenue from the tax will be put into a special fund that will go toward paying for education and transportation infrastructure upgrades. The tax could raise as much as by $1.2 billion more per year for state coffers, according to supporters.
Question 1 passed alongside other progressive-leaning measures on the Nov. 8 ballot: Question 4 upheld the state's new drivers licenses law for undocumented residents; and Question 2 imposed stricter regulations on dental insurance companies. Question 3, which dealt with expanding beer and wine licenses for some retailers, failed.
