Missing Swimmer's Body Pulled From Massachusetts Pond

The swimmer's friend called 911 after they noticed that they were no longer visible around 250 feet from the shoreline near Barba's Point.

HARVARD, MA — The body of a swimmer who went missing just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday has been recovered from the Bare Hill Pond in Harvard after what police are calling a "tragic drowning incident."

The swimmer's friend called 911 after they noticed that they were no longer visible around 250 feet from the shoreline near Barba's Point.

Police, fire, and EMS crews rushed to the scene and were able to access the site via a long trail behind Bromfield School, leading directly to the isolated point, officials said.

Boats, dive teams, drones, and fire and rescue units were deployed to search for the swimmer in the pond. Divers found the body at 2:09 a.m.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time," the Harvard Police Department said Thursday.

No additional information has been released surrounding the circumstances of the swimmer's death, which is under investigation.

Police said they "urge the public to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines when engaging in recreational activities in and around water bodies."
