Popular Grocer Set To Open 4 New Stores In Massachusetts

The new locations will open over the next two years.

MASSACHUSETTS — A popular grocery store chain announced plans to open new stores in Massachusetts in the next two years.

Big Y has recently announced that it will open four stores in the Bay State on Tuesday. The locations will be in Fairhaven, North Dartmouth, Pembroke and Saugus.

Big Y has a large selection of products and a family-friendly atmosphere. The stores also boast pharmacies, bakeries, food courts and other services.

The Pembroke location is set to open first at 24 Mattakeesett St in Pembroke Plaza, according to Big Y. The 38,000-square-foot store, which was the former home of a Stop & Shop, will open sometime in the spring or summer of this year.

Big Y locations in Fairhaven and North Dartmouth will open sometime in 2027, the business said.

The 62,000 square-foot storefront at 7-9 Plaza Way in Fairhaven is slated to open for business in the spring of 2027. It was the former home of a Big Lots.

In North Dartmouth, Big Y will open in the 55,000 square-foot former home of now-defunct Christmas Tree Shops at Faunce Corner Rd.

“These three new stores represent a significant milestone in Big Y’s ongoing expansion into new towns throughout Massachusetts,” said Michael D’Amour, Big Y’s president and CEO in a statement. “With new locations in Pembroke, Fairhaven and North Dartmouth, we’re excited to become a part of new communities that we can serve and create welcoming spaces where customers feel at home.”

Big Y will also open a store in Saugus this year, according to Boston.com. The magazine reported that it will open at 357 Broadway and replace an Amazon Fresh store.

The four locations will join more than 70 Big Y locations across Massachusetts, including stores in Westborough, Worcester, and Springfield.

The company said that more details regarding hiring and grand opening events will be shared in the coming months.
