This week, we learned that the people behind beloved Brookline tapas spot Mahaniyom are set to open a dive bar.

Merai, which means "alcohol" in Thai, is co-owned by Mahaniyom's Chompon "Boong" Boonnak and his business partners and sits on Harvard Street in the heart of Brookline Village, Eater Boston said Monday.

Plus: A tapas-style restaurant is planning to open in the space formerly occupied by Fugakyu Café in Sudbury, which closed its Boston Post Road spot more than a year ago. Zayith Tapas and Bar is planning to take over the 621 Boston Post Rd. Fugakyu space, serving a "mosaic of small plates inspired by the rich gastronomic heritage of France, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Spain, Italy and the larger Mediterranean region."
