These Are The Top 20 Safest Towns In Massachusetts: Safewise 2025 List

MASSACHUSETTS — Safewise has released its rankings of the safest cities and towns in every U.S. state, including Massachusetts.

Northborough was named the safest town in Massachusetts, according to the 2025 State of Safety in America rankings from Safewise.com.

Northborough also led Safewise's list last year. The state's 20 safest cities reported a 40% year-over-year decrease in violent crime.

The report was released last month and named the safest cities and towns in the country based on crime rates and other data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The report examines property crime rates, violent crime rates, and more.

Here's a look at the towns that made up the rest of the top 20 for Massachusetts.

All of the towns in the top 20 have populations under 40,000.

The study found that 61% of Massachusetts residents feel safe in the state, which is the sixth highest confidence level nationwide.

Bay Staters had the lowest level of property crime experiences in the nation and some of the lowest violent crime and gun violence experiences, according to the analysis.

Massachusetts does have high rates of package theft, which "remains the least concerning crime," according to Safewise. Package theft went up from 31% in last year's survey to 40%.
