What's Open, Closed In MA On Good Friday, Easter Weekend

Are post offices open on Good Friday and Easter? How is the MBTA schedule affected? Here are the changes for Massachusetts.

MASSACHUSETTS — Many government services change their hours around holidays. However, Good Friday is not recognized as an official government holiday, but is a stock market holiday.

Here's an idea of what will be opened and closed in Massachusetts on Good Friday (April 7) and Easter (April 9).

Government offices: Government offices, as usual, will only be closed Sunday. Good Friday is not on the state's list of legal holidays, and so most state and local offices will be open.

Banks: Banks will only be closed Sunday.

Post offices: Post offices will only be closed Sunday.

Transit: The MBTA schedule will not be affected by either holiday. For more information on MBTA holiday schedules, go to the MBTA's website. Local regional transit agencies operating bus services may have schedule changes. Check those here.

Public schools: Many public schools across the state will be closed Friday, but you'll want to check with your local district's calendar.

Trash/recycling: Will vary by provider, but most cities and towns will get regular pickup on Good Friday

Retail: Most grocery stores and some retail stores will remain open on both holidays. However, several national chains will be closed on Easter including Sam's Club, Target, Costco, Best Buy, and Home Goods.
