In addition to serving over 75 meals to those in need every Wednesday, Mt Calvary Community Supper partnered with ABUW, The Red Raven and Bisousweet Bakery to prepare and distribute 100 holiday meals of a delicious roast turkey dinner with all the “fixins” and a special dessert on Tuesday, December 22nd. Meals were hand delivered to Acton and Boxborough residents by the Acton Housing Authority, the Acton Social Worker and the Mt. Calvary Community Supper.
This is the third year in a row for this event. In 2013 and 2014, the turkeys were cooked and provided by Rose Saia, owner of the Local Table Restaurant. However, with its unfortunate closing, Mt. Calvary Community Supper Chairman Mike Tobia sought assistance from Jen Apazidis, owner of The Red Raven, who was delighted to take on the task of cooking all the turkeys at the restaurant. The perfectly roasted turkeys were cooked by Chef Dean. An added treat this year was provided by Karen Collins, owner of Bisousweet Bakery. Each meal was accompanied by a s individually wrapped sweet cranberry teacake. All the slicing, dicing, mashing, and remaining cooking took place in the kitchen of the Mt. Calvary Church with the dedicated volunteers working from early morning till mid -afternoon when the final selections were ready for the packing process. Thanks to the members of ABUW, “many hands made light work” and 100 meals were ready for pick-up and hand delivery.

This event has been a very rewarding experience for all involved. Its success has been made possible through the generosity and kindness of individuals and businesses working together for the common good. It speaks to the commitment of the Mt. Calvary Community Supper to provide nutritious meals with care and compassion. The day after preparing these 100 meals the same kitchen staff will return for the weekly Wednesday evening Community Supper and cook the same roast turkey dinner through the generosity of Lowe’s Meat Market in Northborough. By the end of December 23rd another 80+ meals will be served and any remaining will be given to the diners as a take-out for home. It is anticipated that 200 meals will have been prepared in 2 days.
As a non-profit organization Mt. Calvary Community Supper sincerely appreciates support from community residents to continue to serve all those who are in need of a nutritious meal each Wednesday. $25 will provide ten guests with a healthy meal. An entire night’s supper for all who come can be provided for $250. Should you or a group of individuals wish to recognize a special person or family please consider donating a unique gift of love by joining Mt. Calvary Community Supper in the fight against hunger and isolation. Guests are always so grateful for the delicious meal and sense of belonging they feel as they dine at the only community supper in Acton.
