82 Year-Old Acton Man Dies in Boxborough Car Accident
An 82 year-old Acton man was pronounced dead at UMass Medical Center after a head-on collision in Boxborough yesterday evening. The other person involved in the accident is in stable condition.

According to Boxborough Police Chief, Warren Ryder, around 4:42 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, Acton resident, Francis Widmayer, 82, was driving South on Liberty Square Road when he crossed over the double yellow lines and had a head-on collision with 72 year-old Boxborough resident, George Banfield.
The Life Flight helicopter was unable to fly to the scene becaue of poor weather conditions.
Widmayer was brought to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he pronounced dead and Banfield was taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where he is currently in a stable state. Both men were conscious after the accident and the Jaws of Life were used to free the men from their vehicles.

There were no passengers in the vehicles during the crash and there were no witnesses, according to Chief Ryder.
The accident is currently under investigation.

Widmayer was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Banfield 2004 GMC Sierra Pickup Truck.
