Acton-Boxborough School Committee Supports New Regionalization Plan

Residents from both towns will vote on the merger during special town meetings on June 3.

The regionalization plan for a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 district for Acotn and Boxborough took a step forward when the Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee unanimously voted to support the revised agreement.

During a taping of the April 10 committee meeting shown on ActonTV, Peter Ashton and Malcolm Reid, who represented Acton and Boxborough, respectively, made presentations supporting the proposal, which can now go to a public forum stage.

One of the key changes in the plan is the reallocation of funds. Acton will shoulder the larger share of an 80-20 split.

One concern one committe member had was in regards to having enough time to review the plan. Michael Coppolino asked for a delay in the vote, but that failed. The School Committee did agree to talk further at a future meeting.

A special Town Meeting in both towns is scheduled for June 3, where residents will vote on the proposal.
