Acton Junior High School Recognized for High Academic Achievement

51 Massachusetts schools will receive a commemorative certificate at the State House on Feb. 1.

ACTON, MA — R.J. Grey Junior High School in Acton will be honored at the Massachusetts State House Feb. 1 for its high academic achievements in 2016. The junior high was recently named a Massachusetts Commendation School for 2016.

Massachusetts' Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Mitchell D. Chester recognized 51 schools for high achievement, high progress, narrowing proficiency gaps or a combination of both.

Schools will receive a commemorative certificate at the State House on Feb. 1. Commendation is earned by performance on Massachusetts standardized tests, according to the announcement.

"I am pleased to recognize these schools and districts for their hard work over several years," Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Mitchell D. Chester said in a statement. "This year's accountability and assessment results are a testament to the Commonwealth's drive to improve an already strong statewide public education system. As we build the next-generation MCAS that all students in grades 3-8 will take next spring, I'd like to thank in particular the educators from across the Commonwealth who are working with us to ensure we have a high-quality assessment system for many years to come."
