Acton Lions Club Donates to Eye Research.

Acton Lions Club's recent donation and how the funds are raised.

On February 3, 2018, at the 33N Mid-Winter Conference, “King Lion” Dean Charter presented a check in the amount of $10,000 from the Acton Lions Club to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund (MLERF). This amount is approximately half of what the Acton Lions plan on donating to MLERF before the end of the fiscal year. In the last 60 years the Acton Lions Club has donated over $640,000 in total for eye research. These donated funds are used for pure research into the causes and cures for blindness, with research being conducted at Boston University Medical, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Schepens Eye Research Institute, Tufts Medical, Joslin Diabetes, and other research institutes. Over the years MLERF has given out a total of over 26 million dollars in research grants.

The Acton Lions Club conducts three major fund raisers each year, including the Acton Town Fair, the Ski and Skate Sale, and the Christmas Tree Sale. All proceeds from these fundraisers are donated to MLERF, local charities, and international efforts. The Acton Lions greatly appreciate the continued community support of our efforts.
