Acton Man Charged with Assaulting Police Officer

ACTON, MA—Nathaniel Gionet, 37, of Old Village Rd. in Acton has been charged with two counts of assault and battery of a police officer among other charges after an incident on April 20, according to police.

Police responded to Old Village Rd. on April 20 and observed Gionet lying on the ground near an in-ground pool. Police say that Gionet was uncooperative upon waking up and was placed in protective custody, later allegedly elbowing an officer in the chin and chest.

Police also say that Gionet grabbed another officer's fingers and attempted to bend them backwards.

Acton Deputy Police Chief Richard Burrows told Patch that both officers had very minor injuries and did not seek medical attention. A third officer injured his back during the struggle and is out of work while being medically treated, although no specific diagnosis is available.

Gionet was charged with two counts of assault and battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
