Acton Memorial Library Takes Aim at 'Fake News'

Is something true, mostly true or a bald-faced lie? The library wants to help you make that distinction.

ACTON, MA – In the age of the Internet, "fake news" has always existed. But the recent presidential election breathed new life into the phrase, with both sides pointing their finger at the other for fudging facts, outright lying or just printing something they didn't agree with.

The Acton Memorial Library has launched a resources page to assist its readers in sifting through "fake news." The page provides a number of links to essays and studies to help determine if a news story of social media post is credible.

The Reference Department has also assembled a list of fact-checking websites such as Snopes and Politifact, which specialize in debunking rumors, "truthy" statements or bald-faced lies from those in power.
