Acton Selectman Approve South Acton Parking Price Increases

The selectmen voted unanimously to approve parking rate increases at South Acton train station.

ACTON, MA—Parking prices at South Acton Train Station will be increasing, as the Acton Board of Selectmen voted to approve parking fare increases during its June 20 meeting.

The selectmen voted 4-0 to approve the recommendation from the South Acton Train Station advisory committee, with selectman Frances Osman absent, the Selectman's office confirmed with Patch. 12-hour parking will increase from $2.50 to $5.00, with resident stickers increasing from $50-$100 per year.

Senior citizen resident stickers will increase from $25 to $50 per year, Jones Field Reserved Parking will increase from $50 to $100 per month, and bike lockers will increase from $75 to $100 per year and from $10 to $14 per month.

The committee also recommended that the $5 base rate keeps steady for five years, and that the town keeps the current types of parking rates in each designated area.

In the recommendation, committee chairman David Martin cited that it had been over 10 years since parking rates were increased, and that the new $5 rate is required to cover expenses, as well as potential acquisitions of new parking.

According to a report by the Acton Beacon, the new rates will take affect at the station once final renovations are completed and the MBTA clears the site, which is expected to occur during the Fall.
