Bromfield-Acton-Boxborough Rowing sent two teams to the first National School Championship Regatta in Saratoga, New York over the June 7-8, 2014 weekend and came away with a 3rd and 5th place finish. This national race was comprised of qualifiers from all regions of the United States.
All rowers had to be from the same school to compete. The Bromfield boys entered the two-man sculling event. Jake Turchetta and Luca Basile were state champions at the MPSRA Championships in Lowell two weeks ago, and spent the last two weeks getting faster. They charged their way to a third place finish and a bronze medal on Sunday in the 10-lane, 1,500-meter race course.

MORE ROWING NEWS
Bare Hill Rowing alumni also continue to excel at the collegiate level. Three Bromfield graduates and rowers recently participated in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships (IRA’s) held from May 30 to June 1 on Mercer Lake, New Jersey. BHRA alums rowing in the Varsity 1 boats for their colleges were Sam Ginouves in the Wisconsin boat which finished 11th; Connor Finnegan in the Syracuse boat which finished 16th and Pat Ware in the Hobart boat which finished 19th out of 24 teams racing.
The Bare Hill Rowing Club will be sponsoring a “learn to row” program this summer for ages 12 and over to adults. Classes will be held on Lake Boon in Stow, with only three rowers per coach and individual boats. Coaches are current high-school/college rowers. This is a great introduction to the sport of rowing. It can be enjoyed by people of all ages, both as an individual or ultimately as a member of a team. Absolutely no rowing experience is required to participate.
Sessions begin on June 23 and run in two-week intervals Monday-Thursday throughout the summer. Visit www.barehillrowing.com/programs/2014-summer-learn-to-row-program to register. Contact Program Director Holly Hatton at hhatton@barehillrowing.com for more information.
