Acton Boxborough Farmers Market: Ready!...Set!......

Updates, stories, and profiles from the Acton Boxborough Farmers Market, contributed by members of the market's Leadership Board.

ABFM is in high gear as we make our final approach to season #4. We've been busy approving applications, visiting farms, sprucing up our shed on Windsor Ave., and checking our equipment.  Look for us again on Pearl St. in the Village of West Acton starting June 17th--a little earlier than usual this year (by popular demand!).

We'll have an inspiring line-up of farmers and specialty food vendors, artists and musicians.  Many of the farmers you've come to know and trust will be returning, and we'll be hosting some new ones as well.  Our kids activities will be a regular feature of the market, and there will be  some special events scheduled throughout the season.  Oh, and don't forget the wine!! This season we'll have a rotating roster of six different wineries--all from Massachusetts. Also, we'll have a new cheese vendor, and--you asked for it--more eggs!

Since some of the vendor spots change from week to week, the best way to keep up with who's at market on any given Sunday is to subscribe to our email blast. This short weekly newsletter will be delivered to your inbox and will let you know which vendors are at the market each week. And our brilliant Communications Coordinator, Debra Simes, will make sure your name gets on the list.

Believe it or not, the enormous amount of work it takes to run the ABFM is accomplished by just a handful of dedicated souls, which we call our Leadership Board. We came together over a mutual love of good, healthy food, a desire to support local farms, and a passion for community. This season you'll see some new faces at the market. Our board has embarked on a project to train additional folks to manage the weekly market and ensure its sustainability. (By the way, for a humorous take on running a farmers market--a kind of "everything you ever wanted to know"--read my article on the subject in Edible Boston entitled,  Occupy Pearl St.).

As the "occupier" of Pearl St. every Sunday, the ABFM is grateful for the cooperation and generous nature of our friends and neighbors in West Acton, in particular the West Acton Citizens Library, the Christian Science Church, our immediate abutters, and the residents of Windsor Ave. who put up with all the cars parked in front of their houses every Sunday.  A heartfelt Thank You to all.

Come see us starting June 17th, 10 AM-1 PM.  We'll be on Pearl St. every Sunday, rain or shine, until October 21st.

And stay tuned for more posts on Patch from the ABFM.  See ya 'round the village.
