Alzheimer's Disease: Free Educational Series for Family Members

Concerned or caring for a family member who has Alzheimer's Disease ? If so, attend a free series geared toward providing insight and support to families who are coping with Alzheimer's Disease.

Are you concerned about or caring for a family member who is living with Alzheimer’s Disease?

If so, you are invited to attend a free five-part series titled “Alzheimer’s Disease: Caring for Your Loved One” to be held at Lowell General Hospital starting on September 14th.

This five part series will provide insight and support for family members who are seeking education about Alzheimer’s Disease as well as guidance as to how to care for a loved one throughout the disease process.

Participants may choose to attend all five sessions or select the workshops of their choice. Each program will run from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.at the Clark Auditorium located at Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA.

 Workshop leaders will be Joanne Fontaine, RN, BSN, CCM and Lisa Sobhian, LICSW.

This series is a partnership effort with Pro-Active Eldercare and D’Youville Senior Care.

  • Understanding the Basics on September 14th- This workshop will focus on diagnosis, normal memory changes versus dementia, and the progression of the disease
  • Understanding Communication on September 28th- This workshop will focus on communicating effectively with your loved one
  • Understanding Behaviors on October 12th- This workshop will focus on the causes and management of difficult behavior
  • Keeping Your Loved One Safe at Home on October 26th- This workshop will focus on the potential safety issues in the home and solutions to make the home safer for the person with dementia
  • Caring for the Caregiver on November 9th- This workshop will focus on learning to manage the stress of everyday caregiving and identifying helpful resources in the community.
