The ABFM opened its 4th season yesterday with the help of our dedicated volunteers, mother nature, and our State Senator, Jamie Eldridge. Senator Eldridge spoke briefly to the crowd who had gathered just before the 10 AM opening bell, shopping bags in hand. He extolled the benefits to the community of the farmers market, and about the value of a vibrant, safe, and clean food system.
We have many to thank for our successful first day. Our outstanding high school volunteer that morning, Stephanie Lin, could not have worked harder nor been more pleasant to work with. Clare Siska, Barbara Kloczkowski and Sally Edwards were indispensable when it came time to putting the market to bed at 1:00 PM. Thank you, guys!
And while I'm passing out thanks, let me give a shout out to our immediate neighbors, both residential and commercial. The West Acton businesses, , Graphic Connections, and The Christian Science Church have all been gracious in granting us access to parking for our vendor trucks. Middlesex Bank, The West Acton Fire Station, and the West Acton Branch of the US Post Office all accommodate the cars of some of our Sunday shoppers. The , our best bud, and soul mate, lends us support and logistics help throughout the year.

Then there are the properties of the families abutting the market: The Spero Family, who conveniently parks its cars each week elsewhere and puts up with our barricades and signs; the Watt Family, (the 2 cute little boys who set-up a lemonade stand to raise money for a non-profit) whose parking area gets used every week for our musicians' performances; and finally the Windsor Ave neighborhood (the self-designated Best Street to Live On in Acton) which tolerates increased traffic every summer Sunday morning--thank you so much for your cooperation!
Hope to see you next Sunday on Pearl Street at 10 AM, and every Sunday, rain or shine, until October 21st.
