On April 2, 2012, people across the globe are "lighting it up blue" in an attempt to raise awareness for autism through Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks (lightitupblue.org) is helping the world understand the complex developmental disorders of the brain that make living and learning challenging. Worldwide, blue lights will be shone to support the research and education on autism spectrum disorder.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, approximately 1 in 88 children in America are identified as on the autism spectrum. Autism is a major developmental disorder that educators need to be aware of and know how to handle. The private funding for autism research is far below that of other conditions, according to Autism Speaks.
As an educator, I believe that every child deserves the best education possible. Each child is unique, and all children should be prepared to succeed in life. In my classroom and education endeavors, I strive to make every child a part of the school/class community. Being able to understand autism spectrum disorder has enabled me to help my children participate and achieve success in their education.

Who is lighting it up blue? I will be. My growing Acton performing arts school will be. We will also be donating 3% of all tuition proceeds for our summer theater workshops to Autism Speaks via our website www.actonpa.com.
Everyone deserves the best education possible, and we are here to provide it in our community and support it in the world.
