When making plans with travel agents, be sure to ask what if any special services exist to help older adults. There may be meals which fit your dietary needs, escort services or shuttle services.

Be sure to stay dehydrated.  During long flights, car rides or on long train trips, it is easy to become dehydrated.

Consider obtaining a medic alert bracelet in the event that you cannot speak for yourself during a health crisis.

Try to maintain good circulation by getting up and walking periodically. Consult with your doctor if use of compression stockings is advised.

Review your health insurance coverage. What is covered if you are outside of the service area?  What would be covered in the event that you need to be medically evacuated?

Do you need handicap accessibility?  Some hotels now offer rooms which are designed for people who use wheelchairs. Be sure to ask when you make reservations.

Local conditions related to humidity, heat and altitude can play havoc with your health. Consult with your pharmacist or physician about any precautions or changes that may be needed.

Leave a copy of your travel plans and health information with a family member or friend who can be contacted in the event of an emergency.

Happy and healthy travels to you – no matter how close or far from home you roam!
