Be Careful, The Ticks Are Still Out There

Be careful, the ticks are still out there!

I hope this finds you well after a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend. How about this streak of unseasonably warm New England weather we've enjoyed since the "October Nor'easter"?

If you're like my family and me, you've been outside more than you might normally be at the end of November. Whether it's enjoying recreational activities or just cleaning up the yard, we're outside more than usual at this time of year. That is what brings me to send out this 'alert' to my LymeLITE.org distribution lists.

After being outside dragging branches, chopping wood, and doing outdoor clean up around our yard, it's not uncommon that I'm finding one or more un-attached ticks on my clothing when I come in and do a tick-check. So, please be diligent!  As we are outside enjoying this unseasonably warm weather be aware that we are in the tick's environment just as the adults are out looking for their bloodmeal.  Do a tick-check as soon as you come indoors so you can get rid of those ticks BEFORE they've had a chance to attach to you, a family member, or a pet.

Thanks, and remember to tell your friends, family, and neighbors that the TICKS are still out there! Even when we (finally) start to get deep freezes, the ticks will still be out in in full force looking anytime the temperature gets above freezing.

Reminder: You can still see the 30 minute LymeLITE episode of "Older...and Loving It" now by clicking here.  It's also still playing on Acton & Boxborough Public Access (Comcast channel 8 and Verizon FIOS channel 45) each week-day at 7:30am and again at 5:30pm.

Best wishes,
Kurt Hayes
