Seniors and Children at Greatest Risk for Lyme Disease
Seniors and children at greatest risk for Lyme disease.
According to Massachusetts Department of Health data, seniors and their young grandchildren have the highest incidence rates for Lyme disease in Massachusetts. This fact and other important information about the prevention and treatment of the growing public health hazard of Lyme disease are discussed on an episode of "Older ... and Loving It."
Host Phil Summers recently interviewed me as the co-founder of LymeLITE, a grass-roots organization bringing Lyme disease awareness and education to Metrowest communities. The 30-minute "LymeLITE" episode of "Older ... and Loving It" can be seen in Acton or Boxborough on Comcast channel 8 and Verizon FIOS channel 45 each weekday at 7:30am and 5:30pm. The schedule full Acton TV schedule can be found on actontv.org and clicking on the link that reads "Click Here for Public Schedule".
The "LymeLITE" episode of "Older ... and Loving It" can also be viewed online by clicking here or at actontv.org by clicking on the link for "Public programming & Government Meetings" and clicking on "Older & Loving It:
Lyme Disease" at the bottom left of the page.
I appreciate Phil Summers inviting me on 'Older and Loving It' to discuss the danger presented to seniors by Lyme disease. Many are not aware that seniors are more at risk than many other age groups. Having this episode on TV right now is important, as Fall is a dangerous time when it comes ticks and Lyme disease.
It is vital that people know that even in the Fall, the ticks are out there! People often wrongly assume that once we have a freeze the ticks are gone as is the case with mosquitoes and other bugs. In fact, ticks do not die when it freezes. The adult ticks are out there in full force, active and looking for a blood meal.

If this episode of "Older and Loving It" helps just one person, a senior, their adult children, or their young grandchildren, avoid getting Lyme disease, then I will take heart that the efforts of LymeLITE are helping serve others and stop the public health hazard of Lyme disease.
